Where Bellville sits
Bellville began as a wagon stop called Twelfth Mile Stone, about 20 km from Cape Town. It was renamed in 1861 after surveyor-general Charles Bell.
The City of Cape Town counts these areas as part of Bellville, among others: Bellville Central, Bloemhof, Blommendal, Boston, Oakdale, Oakglen, Stikland and Sunkist. Tygervalley, the business and shopping node, has its own guide.

- University of the Western Cape, main campus on Robert Sobukwe Road
- Cape Peninsula University of Technology, Bellville campus, Symphony Way (off Robert Sobukwe Road)
- Northlink College, head office at 80 Voortrekker Road. Campuses include Bellville, Belhar, Protea and Tygerberg.
Out and about
- Tygerberg Nature Reserve, entrance on Totius Street, Welgemoed. 388 hectares, with hiking trails, picnic areas and a 360-degree view of the city from the top.
